How Do I Add a Simple Text Hyperlink to My Call to Action?

You can turn selected text inside a Text/HTML call to action into a clickable hyperlink using the CTA editor.

Step-by-Step Configuration Instructions

Step 1: Open the Calls to Action editor

  1. Navigate to Webinar Editor > Customize > Calls to Actions.
  2. Open the Calls to Actions / Chat section.
  3. To create a new CTA, use the blank CTA form displayed in the section.
  4. To update an existing CTA, locate it in the Calls to Action table and click Edit.

The v2 editor does not use the Legacy Editor’s Add Call to Action button. After a successful save, the CTA appears in the Calls to Action table.

Step 2: Select or create a Text/HTML CTA

  1. Enter a value for CTA Name.
  2. Set CTA Type to Text/HTML.
  3. Complete the CTA Start Time (Time stamp), CTA Duration, and CTA Location fields.
  4. Review Display Timer if you want the CTA to display a countdown.
  5. In the Message rich-text editor, click inside the content area.

For a hybrid webinar, select Prerecorded, Live, or Both under Availability when that option is displayed. Live CTA visibility is controlled from the Live Webinar Console.

Step 3: Enter and select the text

  1. Type the text you want attendees to click, such as Download the guide .
  2. Highlight the exact word or phrase that should become the hyperlink.

Step 4: Add the destination URL

  1. Click the Link control in the rich-text toolbar.
  2. Enter the destination URL in the link dialog.
  3. If the dialog displays a Link Text field, confirm that it contains the text you selected.
  4. Click Add to apply the hyperlink.

The selected text should now appear as linked text inside the Message editor. The editor uses the shared rich-text toolbar, which includes the standard link control.

Behavior note: Standard links in the current editor configuration default to opening in a new tab or window.

Step 5: Save the CTA

  1. Review the linked text and the remaining CTA settings.
  2. Click Save.
  3. Wait for the save confirmation.
  4. Confirm that the CTA appears in or remains in the Calls to Action table.

CTA changes are saved immediately. After a successful save, the editor may return to a blank CTA form. This does not mean that the CTA was deleted; confirm the saved CTA in the table.

Additional Help Topics

Prerequisites and Upstream Requirements

Before you begin:

  1. Open an editable webinar.
  2. Prepare the destination URL that attendees should visit.
  3. Use a Text/HTML CTA.
  4. If you are configuring a CTA for recorded content, wait until the webinar video status shows Complete before creating or editing the CTA.

A text hyperlink creates clickable text. It does not create a structured button CTA.

For a registration-based webinar:

  1. Use the Preview action for the Calls to Action section to open the watch-page preview.
  2. Confirm that the linked text appears in the intended CTA location.
  3. Register for the webinar using a new test email address or alias.
  4. Join the webinar as that registrant.
  5. For prerecorded content, confirm that the CTA appears at the configured start time and remains visible for the configured duration.
  6. Click the linked text from the attendee watch page.
  7. Confirm that it opens the intended destination.
  8. Test the CTA on desktop, mobile portrait, mobile landscape, and video or full-screen views.
  9. Confirm that the text is readable and does not cover important webinar content.

For a Public Webinar, open the public watch-page link directly instead of registering a test attendee.

For a Live or hybrid-live CTA:

  1. Navigate to Live Webinar Console > Calls to Action.
  2. Refresh the console if the newly saved CTA is not listed.
  3. Turn the CTA on when it should appear.
  4. Click the linked text from the attendee view and confirm that it opens the intended destination. [1]

Common Issues & Solutions

Symptom Root Cause Resolution
The Link control is disabled or does not apply a link. No text range is selected, or the editor does not have focus. Highlight a non-empty text range, click inside the Message editor, and then click Link again.
The link appears in the editor but not for attendees. The CTA may not have been saved, or its timing, location, availability, or visibility settings may not be active. Click Save, confirm that the CTA appears in the table, use the watch-page preview, and review the CTA timing and location. For live content, activate the CTA from Live Webinar Console > Calls to Action.
The CTA does not appear during recorded content. The video may still be transcoding, or the CTA timing may not match the recorded portion. Wait until the video status shows Complete, then review the CTA start time, duration, availability, and location. Save the CTA again.
The CTA does not appear during a Live Webinar. Live CTA visibility is controlled from the Live Webinar Console rather than only by the recorded-video timeline. Confirm that the CTA is configured for Live or Both, refresh the console if needed, and turn the CTA on under Live Webinar Console > Calls to Action.
The text hyperlink is difficult to see. The text may be too small or may have insufficient contrast against the webinar content. Use readable link text with sufficient contrast, then test the CTA over the actual webinar video.
The instructions do not match the interface. The account is displaying the Legacy CTA Editor instead of the redesigned v2 editor. Use Webinar Editor > Customize > Calls to Actions for the v2 workflow. If the screen shows Event editor > Calls to Action > Add Call to Action, follow the Legacy Editor documentation instead.
The saved CTA seems to disappear after clicking Save. The v2 editor may have reset to a blank form after saving successfully. Check the Calls to Action table. The saved CTA should appear there and can be opened with Edit.
